Is the laboratory report the same as an appraisal?
No. A report identifies and grades stated characteristics. An appraisal assigns a purpose-specific value and should explain its basis and market.
Are large stones always more valuable?
No. Size interacts with color, clarity, cut, origin, treatment, certification and demand. A smaller exceptional stone can command more.
How should estate jewelry be evaluated?
Consider the entire piece: maker, age, construction, condition, gemstone evidence, provenance and comparable demand—not melt value alone.
